IMRO Rwanda is deeply committed to advancing human rights and social justice through comprehensive advocacy efforts. Our multifaceted approach encompasses rigorous research, strategic campaigning, community outreach, and awareness-raising initiatives targeting stakeholders and the wider community. Central to our mission is empowering civil society organisations (CSOs), community leaders, and activists with the necessary skills and knowledge to advocate for legislative and policy reforms effectively. Notably, our advocacy endeavours have yielded significant achievements, including the removal of restrictive court orders for accessing safe abortion, the inclusion of defilement as grounds for safe abortion, and the decriminalisation of sex work. Yet, our journey continues as we persist in advocating for critical issues such as adolescents’ access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services without parental consent and for the full recognition of LGBTQI rights for genuine equality. IMRO Rwanda collaborates with stakeholders to monitor the government’s implementation of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) recommendations, ensuring accountability and respect for human rights. The insights from this monitoring serve as the foundation for advocacy efforts directed towards the national government and submissions to international human rights mechanisms, driving positive change and fostering a more just society.
