Harm reduction for people who use drugs (PWUDs) is a strategic priority for IMRO Rwanda, focusing on mitigating the adverse health, social, and legal impacts of drug use. The program advocates for supportive policies, engages in extensive capacity building and training for service providers, law enforcement, and peer educators, and conducts health services mapping in Rwanda. Community-led monitoring (CLM) is enhanced to ensure equitable access to quality HIV services, while peer education empowers PWUDs through trusted, peer-led support. The program also sensitises law enforcement on the human rights of PWUDs, distributes essential harm reduction materials such as condoms and IEC resources, and promotes health through WASH and communicable disease awareness campaigns. Furthermore, research and impact assessments guide the continuous improvement of harm reduction strategies, aligning with the Rwanda HIV/AIDS National Strategic Plan 2024-2027 to provide comprehensive support for PWUDs.
