IMRO Rwanda (Ihorere Munyarwanda Organisation) is a legally recognised Non-Governmental Organization operating in Rwanda, granted legal personality No 03/11 under the new Law number 04/2012. Established in 1999, IMRO Rwanda has dedicated 25 years to improving the lives of Rwandans through diverse interventions targeting societal enhancement and health promotion. Our initiatives encompass HIV prevention among key and priority populations, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Poverty Alleviation, Gender Equality, Nutrition, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Education, Environment, Peace Building, Health Promotion, Advocacy, and Networking.
IMRO Rwanda was founded by a dedicated group of professionals who saw an urgent need to tackle the pressing health and socio-economic issues affecting Rwanda’s most vulnerable populations. From the beginning, our founders immersed themselves in the communities they aimed to serve, gaining a deep understanding of their challenges and aspirations. This groundwork ensured that our programs were tailored to address real needs and that the voices of those we serve were effectively communicated to policymakers and Every stakeholder involved.
Today, IMRO Rwanda continues to be a pivotal force in policy advocacy, engaging with Parliament, Ministry of Health, Justice, Education, Gender & Family, and their implementing bodies such as RBC, NCDA,… along with local authorities including districts, RIB, RNP, and DASSO. We also work with media professionals, providing them with SRHR information and encouraging their participation in the SRHR movement to disseminate harmonised and evidence-based information to the public. IMRO Rwanda extends its impact beyond national borders by actively participating in regional and global networks. As a member of the East Africa Civil Society Organization Forum (EACSOF), and through our involvement in technical working groups such as East Africa National Networks AIDS Services Organizations (EANNASO/RNGOF), International AIDS Society (IAS)/Africa, Global Fund Advocacy Network (GFAN), CS4ME Africa, Anglophone Africa Country Coordinating Mechanism Observers for Global Funds on HIV, TB & Malaria Network, Africa Domestic Funding Network, and Universal Health Coverage Civil Society Network (UHC CSO Network), we demonstrate our commitment to collaborative efforts in achieving broader health and advocacy goals.
IMRO Rwanda’s story is one of unwavering dedication to listening to and serving the needs of Rwanda’s most vulnerable populations. By bridging the gap between communities and the healthcare system, advocating for inclusive policies, and fostering sustainable development, we strive to create a healthier and more equitable society where all individuals have the opportunity to lead healthy lives.
